Treatment of Orbital Cellulites using Nasal Endoscopy - No Surgery

Our patient came to the ophthalmology clinic after suffering from exophthalmos, with severe visual impairment and inability to move the left eye. After examination, Dr. Tariq Saleh confirmed the presence of a leak on the optic nerve, with congestion in the blood vessels of the retina, high intraocular pressure, and visual acuity weakness reaching 36/6 - meaning that vision is almost non-existent in the affected eye.

Diagnosis: Immediately, the patient underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to show the presence of pus accumulations behind the eye due to Sinuses infection, which necessitated her transfer to the ENT clinic for further examinations and a more accurate diagnosis of the condition.

Surgical decision: After discussing the case in detail with the patient, the decision was made for surgical intervention through the endoscope through the nose to remove the pus accumulation to reach the inner part of the eye towards the nose, open the separating membrane and remove these pus blood accumulations located behind the eye, under the leadership of Dr. Mostafa Ali - Consultant Otolaryngologist and Associate Medical Team.

Recovery: Upon recovery, the patient felt a significant improvement in her vision, and she was fully examined to ensure the success of the operation, and we found that things returned to normal, where the visual acuity reached 6/6, and the eye movement rate reached 90% only after 3 days, thankfully.
